40 GSM vs 50 GSM: What's the Difference?

GSM (grams per square metre) measures fabric weight. A 40 GSM disposable coverall is lighter and more breathable, which makes it a good choice for short tasks and hot UAE conditions. A 50 GSM coverall is thicker and more resistant to tearing, so it is better for longer shifts and rougher work. Neither is designed for chemical protection. Disposable Chemical Coveralls: CE Category III Types Explained

Disposable chemical coveralls are classified as Category III PPE under EU Regulation 2016/425, the highest risk category, which covers protection against hazards that can cause serious harm. Within Category III, coveralls are rated by the type of hazard they block:

• Type 4 (EN 14605): spray-tight; protects against liquid sprays
• Type 5 (EN ISO 13982-1): protects against hazardous airborne dry particles such as dust, asbestos fibres and powders
• Type 6 (EN 13034): protects against limited liquid splashes and light chemical mists

A Type 4/5/6 coverall offers all three levels, so it suits the most demanding jobs. A Type 5/6 coverall is the standard choice for particle and light-splash work.

What GSM disposable coverall should I buy?

For short, light-duty tasks such as painting or site visits, the 40 GSM coverall is enough. For longer shifts or rougher work, choose 50 GSM. If chemicals or hazardous dust are involved, choose a CE Type 5/6 or Type 4/5/6 coverall instead of plain PP.

Are disposable coveralls PPE?

Yes, but protection levels differ. Basic PP coveralls are for dust and dirt and are not chemical PPE. Type 4/5/6 coveralls are certified Category III PPE.

What is the difference between Type 5 and Type 6 coveralls?

Type 5 protects against hazardous dry particles such as dust and asbestos fibres. Type 6 protects against light liquid splashes. Most chemical-protection coveralls, like our Proguard Type 5/6, are certified for both.

Can I reuse a disposable coverall?
